Spiderman 3

Posted by Steve on May 10, 2007 in Movies | 1 comment

I just returned from a late showing of Spider-Man 3 with a bunch of guys from church and I had a few thoughts. I’ll leave it to Adam to draw some spiritual implications and applications out of the movie. I will simply tell you what I like and what I didn’t. Oh, and by the way, if you want to avoid spoilers, don’t read this…

What I liked…

  • The Ending Fight Scene – Most of the fight scenes I thought were not very good, but I thought the scene of Peter and Harry fighting the Sandman and Venom was well done.
  • Redemption – Harry went about 2.5 movies hating Peter. Yet the redemption his character experienced was cool.
  • Parallelism – The first movie ended with the funeral of Harry’s dad and this one ended with Harry’s funeral. It made for a cool parallel structure.

What I didn’t like…

  • The Acting – David and Eric Forman, I mean, Tobey Maguire and Topher Grace, couldn’t act their way out of a paper bag. At times, it was downright distracting.
  • The Photography – I just thought it was weird the scenes where they showed only Peter’s chest. What was that about?
  • The Script – Ok, I know that when you watch a movie you have to suspend belief in things like physics and the amount of pain a human could tolerate. But a relatively good script was compromised to me by what I thought were really thin plot points. For example, early in the movie you find out that Sandman has a weakness with water. If that is true, why in the big scene near the end doesn’t Spidey just get a message to the fire department to hose him down?

Oh well, that’s all I’ve got. Peace out.
